God save our Queen

Of course I watched the royal wedding, and could not help my feelings of nostalgia towards the country that birthed me.
I love that we still have a monarchy, it a tradition that's makes England unique, and when it comes to a royal wedding tradition is defiantly the prominent word that comes to mind.
Some of those in fact have not changed since our monarchy began. The beautiful costumes and gold carriages are enough to make anyone feel like they are in living fairytale, and everything oh so precise, down to the second, perfection!
I awoke at 3.30am, having not slept much the night before in anticipation on seeing the magic, rubbed my eyes and headed into the kitchen to 'put the kettle on'. Using my best antique windsor china I sat in front of my TV still in my silk PJ's and poured myself a cup of English Breakfast tea, then another, and another as I watched for the next 3 hours almost without blinking, but defiantly fidgeting this historical event take place.
The onlooking crowds, seemed so well behaved and happy, maybe also because the day had been made national holiday, that's reason enough to be happy in itself!
Congratulations to the happy couple and long live the Queen!

The Music Years...Final part.

Part four.
So to conclude on my own musical analogy and journey, I am now in the present. I've come to the realization, that there are no rules. I need not conform to one genre, one style, or 'pop' music trends. If you are not true to yourself with your music, or your fashion, in any way that is an expression of you for that matter, it will show thru in your art. People will see thru your uncomfortable, unsureness and take you for a fraud.
At the end of the day I write my music from a certain feeling or emotion I'm getting at the time. It's my own release, and I just have to hope my fans love it too.
With that being said, my upcoming EP 'Let Them Eat Cake' is a reflection of that. I experimented a lot, it has been fun, and I loved the results. Every track is a different little piece of me!

The Music Years....Part three.

Part three.
Some years later when I was about 17, I moved to Ibiza. The thumping drums and sounds of John Digweed and Paul Van Dyke's 'For an Angel' coming from the speakers, were enough to make anyone wanna take 'E' . I had a crazy few years on that dance scene, altho there was no hip hop in Ibiza, that never stopped me searching, or harassing the DJ's for Snoop or Dre.
Always in the centre of every event, I leave my Covent Garden, London apartment some years later to head to a Brit Awards after party, and made what would become a very dear friend, He was the late Proof, and as soon as I felt cool enough with him I confided in him about my secret rap aspirations. Expecting to hear a chuckle, he actually took dream seriously, and encouraged me to go for it. A little fire sparked inside me and a voice in my head said "you can do it!".
We went on to spend the rest of the evening writing raps, and coming up with the name Misfit. He explained and broke down different techniques, rhymes pattens and all I needed to know to get started. I owe him a lot.
I studied every rapper, old and new, and with a CD Walkman, pad, and a pen always firmly stuck to my hand, I began writing profusely.

The Music Years....Part two.

Part two.
My second phase came shortly after, and I have to say both genres altho completely different on first reaction, I think are actually very similar in many ways...
My brother was playing NWA and Ice T and his stereo always managed to drown out my music device
So eventually I accepted defeat and made the transition, altho it wasn't that hard because I was excited by the shock value of Eazy E's rhymes.
Both phases had excelled in controversy, while The Cure Sang "Rape me like a child christened in blood" Eazy E rapped "Fuck the police".
So true my compassionate personality, soon enough I knew more about Hip Hop than my brother, or anyone else did. I knew the words to the whole NWA album and would rap them for anyone that would listen.
That's when my desire to become a rapper arose, I was a young teen still living in the English countryside, a million miles away from Compton. This is a far fetch dream, I will keep this one to myself, I decided.

The Music Years....Part one.

Part one.
Nowadays when I'm writing a song I do not conform anymore.
Music has always been a huge role in my life, my escapism, as I'm sure most agree.
And I've had my fair share of phases, I started my life off as a goth, I did however still keep it glamorous, my lipstick more perfectly applied than that of The Cure's Robert Smith and I still favored pink hues, I did however dye my hair black.
I remember my grandmother, bless her soul, was mad at my mother for allowing me to wear make up as part of my daily routine from around 5 years old, but when I died my hair black she flipped! "she's just a child, what are you doing?" But my mother exclaimed "I'm letting her get this shit out her system early."
And yup she sure was right, because long gone are the days of 10 holed Doctor Martin's (which were in fact my older brothers, thus being at least 4 sizes too big), tied dyed skirts and Morticia Adams hair. It was tho, in this phase that I began song writing, or, probably more poems then as I had no clue how to make up melodies.
I would spend every possible moment of everyday with The Cure spinning on the record player, I owned some really rare vinyl's, I had the purple 7" of 'Pictures of You' let's just say I was a super fan, and I justified it because i was from the same town in England they were from.
The Smiths would also alternate in-between, amoung other indie rock bands such as - EMF, Siouxsie and the Banshees, James and Depeche Mode.
The Cure and The Smiths were my favorite tho and I would literally loose myself in a pre-teen trance.

April. Period drama series month. and my Birthday.

After waiting for what seemed like two years for The Bogias to air it finally arrives, my high expectations from Michael Hirst et al were not too high. It was visually amazing, intense and as expected very sexy.
I know the history of the Bogias all too well, and I am excited to see how this new Showtime original series plays it out.
Now if that was enough excitement for my history fanatic eyes, in the same month Starz's Camelot and HBO's Game of Thrones is also gracing my 40-sum inch LCD. I feel like I'm being spoilt!
I thoroughly enjoyed Camelot and am looking forward to Game of Thrones, next sunday, perfect end to my Birthday weekend! Sean Bean is a fantastic actor, loved him in the recent Black Death.
Also this past weekend, in more recent and American history, The Kennedy's aired on Reelz.
Aside from the annoying commercial breaks which made me feel more like I was watching a soap, as apposed to an original drama on the epic event's that happened in the US, mid sixties.
I learnt a lot watching it, as i found myself 'WiKi-ing' each Kennedy to really understand that period.
So many tragedies in one family, but an extremely strong family nevertheless. Makes me wonder if The 48 Laws of Power was in reference to them.

Spring Chicken!

Spring is approaching and I can barely control my excitement. My mom always called me an 'Easter Bunny' because, she explained to me, I was born on Easter Monday.
Sugared almond colored eggs and little fluffy chickens always bring out the little girl in me and make me think of the early morning sunrises, the smell of freshly cut grass and yellow daffodils.
I spent the first years of my life growing up in the English countryside in a 13th century house, surrounded by hay fields and a pond that housed a family of ducks, well that is until they decided to take a walk one day out onto the road and never came back.

Here is a few old snap's from that very house, note my fashion - I designed all my outfits, yeah I started young!
Seems so far from the Brooklyn apartment I reside in now.... :)
